Professor Ramani Moonesinghe OBE
I am proud to be Director of the NIHR Central London Patient Safety Research Collaboration. I am a clinician scientist by background, having trained in medicine, anaesthesia, and critical care.

I was appointed as a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care at UCL Hospitals in 2010 and have been a Professor at UCL since 2018. My research focuses on developing and evaluating ways to improve the safety and quality of perioperative and critical care, including adults, children and obstetrics. As well as being Director of our PSRC, I am theme lead for the critical and perioperative care theme of the UCLH NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. I was Director of the RCoA’s Health Services Research Centre between 2016 and 2022.
My NHS commitments include being National Clinical Director for Critical and Perioperative Care at NHS England (NHSE). In this capacity, I provided clinical leadership to the NHSE critical care response to COVID19 throughout the pandemic; I now clinically lead national transformation programmes in critical care and perioperative care. These aim to improve access, reduce system- and patient-level inequalities, and improve care delivery and outcomes for patients who could benefit from critical care and surgery.
I am married to a very patient and supportive inventor and live in Sussex with him and our adopted children aged 4, 7 and 8.
